Backyard Missions: Food packing

Caryn

After a short note by Pastor Philip (Being a world class Christian VS being a worldly Christian), the 13 of us departed for Taman Rashna.

A clockwork flurry of activities followed after we arrived at 10.30am.

Packing foodstuff, a few minutes worth of break in between, and we were back in action again till 1pm!

Nette & a lot of food!

What is Backyard Missions?

Playing princess at work

Today's a Saturday. It's normally the only day I get to sleep in late, but most of the time, I'm awake by 9.30am.

Later I will be going down to the Tower of Incense with some youths to do some Backyard Missions. What's Backyard Missions?

They're short-term (I mean, seriously short-term - think two to three hours!) mission trips you can carry out in your surrounding neighborhood or community. It's a breath of fresh air from boarding a plane for three hours to a foreign country to carry out the same works you can do in your backyard.

Backyard Missions is also a great springboard for those who are seriously thinking about doing missions work. Why? Well, it gives you a taste of what working for the community is like! There's no glitz or glamor about it. No one will give two hoots if you went out of your comfort zone to accomplish a task. It's just labor for the kingdom of God, pure and simple.

What I'm referring to here is the physical part of missions and evangelism. There's the connection part of missions that's equally important as well - engaging with your immediate community to make an impact in their lives. To change their lives with the love of Jesus.

But that's a story for another day! I've got to go now.

Have a super weekend!

PS: My convocations' tomorrow! :D

19 minutes of goodness

The last few minutes are particularly ELECTRIFYING. What an atmosphere of praise, of surrender and awe and thankfulness and just a mish mash of good emotions and stuff, all for the One.

first movie of 2012

This year's first movie watched: The Hunger Games.

I fully approve for teenagers to read the Hunger Games because it's a better read than Twilight. Katniss is a 21st-century independent female as cliched as the term "damsel in distress" (but is far from it) doomed to fight for her survival in the totalitarian (I think!) world of Panem (presumably North America in the far future). The games are telecast to viewers as part of a reality series to keep the oppressed citizens in check (to avoid uprising, etc).

What I like about the movie: the clever use of the three panels for the viewing of Hunger Games. It may be a small note but it speaks so well of the multi-screen world we live in today: multi-panels for multi-input.

Stanley Tucci as the elaborate and emotive host.

This year's first book read: The Map of the Invisible World. Blogged about it here.
